How to Sketch a Car with Markers

Hey Designers!

In this video, I’ll show you real quick how to sketch a car with markers and the steps I take to get it done.

Basically, you want to start out loose with a pencil or very fine pen lines. You don’t have to worry too much about messing up at this stage, most of these lines will get covered up as we go on to render the sketch with markers.

I like to start sketching with light markers first. Why? Well this gives me a better overview of where to add shadows and highlights and if I happen to make a mistake, the light markers will be less visible than darker ones and easier to cover up.

Always, always keep in mind where the light source is and the direction of the light. If you don’t have this clear to you when you start it’s going to be very difficult to kinda plan where to add shadows and what surfaces will be highlighted. I like to keep the light source the same for most of my sketches where the light is coming from the top. This reflects a natural, outdoor environment where the light source is the sky.

I hope you enjoy the video. Write in the comments if you have any questions, happy to answer them!
