The Secret to Getting Started

Setting up goals can be both motivating and a bit intimidating. The more we define what the goal is, the more detailed the road to get there gets. A lot of times, this can get overwhelming. I’ve been in that situation too many times to count. And sometimes, this makes me procrastinate because I don’t know where to start.

I know that when this happens, the secret to getting started is to break down the goal into small steps. These steps should not take more than a few hours to complete.

Once you have written down the steps for the day, focus 100% on the first step, and ONLY the first step.

Forget about step 2, it does not exist until step 1 is complete. What do you have to do right NOW to get step 1 done? Figure it out and don’t try to jump ahead.

This way works for me and it might just work for you too.

We don’t have all the answers, but just believe that they will come to you as you move forward.

I’m driving across the state soon. I don’t know the way. I might get stuck in some roadwork on the way. That’s fine, I’ll just find a way around it. One corner at a time until I reach my destination. No need to map out the entire route in advance.
